02/21/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Memphis Grizzlies three-year postseason run is definitely coming to an end. They were 0-12 during their three playoff appearances and will be looking to secure the top pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Memphis is a dismal 14-41 and owns the second worst record in the NBA. Only the Boston Celtics have a worse record, as they are a brutal 13-39. The Grizzlies are in the cellar of the Northwest Division, 31 games behind the division-leading Utah Jazz. They are 11 1/2 games behind the fourth place New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.
Forward Pau Gasol, who missed the first 22 games of the season with a left foot injury which he suffered during the summer while competing for Spain in the FIBA world championships, leads the Grizzlies in scoring (20.1 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg) and blocks (2.3 bpg). Gasol has scored in double-digits in 31 straight games. He has collected 14 double-doubles and one triple-double this season.
The Golden State Warriors play their first game back from the All-Star break, as they welcome the Grizzlies on Wednesday to ORACLE Arena. This is the second of four meetings this season between the squads. On January 3rd, Mike Miller poured in 33 points, including a career-high nine three-pointers as the Grizzlies picked up a 144-135 win over the Warriors at the FedExForum.
The Grizzlies have won four of their last five at Golden State. Memphis has won five in a row in the series. Golden State will host the Grizzlies on April 1st at ORACLE Arena, while Memphis will welcome the Warriors on April 6th to FedExForum.
Memphis has lost two in a row and plays the third of a four-game road trip against the Warriors. On Tuesday, Rashard Lewis scored 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Seattle SuperSonics over the Grizzlies, 121-105, at KeyArena.
Gasol scored 17 points and grabbed 12 boards in the loss to Seattle for the Grizzlies, who have lost five in a row on the road. Miller scored 20 points, while rookie Rudy Gay finished with 19 points for Memphis.
The Grizzlies are a dismal 3-24 on the road this season. They will visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday at the Rose Garden.

Now, it's okay to call the league hypocritical when it releases injury reports, which players have told me only helps bettors. And it's okay to mutter something obscene when the league pretends gambling doesn't help drive TV ratings and fan interest and put money in owners' pockets. But when it supports other forms of gaming? Big Deal. The Bears should put an orange "C" on every deck of cards dealt at Harrah's in Joliet; the Eagles should slap their logo on roulette wheels at the Borgata in Atlantic City; the Dolphins should hold training camp at the El San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Seriously.
The NFL's problem, when it comes to the gambling world, isn't hypocrisy, it's worse: The bosses lack vision. That's why the league is picking unwinnable fights in Delaware and taking pot shots from critics after making smart sponsorship deals. Roger Goodell and his gang are acting and thinking locally rather than globally, which is rare for them, especially compared to their professional (and amateur) counterparts.
The NBA held its All Star game in Las Vegas and David Stern's kingdom didn't crumble (although the town did bring plenty of players to their knees.) I'd say it's 6 to 5 and pick 'em that Lebron will make a road swing through Sin City before his career is over.
Even the NCAA College Football Betting is more progressive on this issue than the NFL. Several years ago Rachel Newman Baker, college sports' gambling czar, opened a dialogue with Vegas bookmakers to learn about how they do business. She's visited Nevada sports books, studied their operations and listened to how they regulate action. Now she knows she can expect a call from bookmakers, who lose money when sports are fixed, if they think something sketchy is going on in NCAA games. She's not in favor of sports betting, but, as she once told me, "I know it's not going away, either."
The NFL can't seem to accept that. And until it can find peace with the idea, it'll get flack, even when it's right.
