03/07/2009 - Tempe, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 21st-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils will try to break out of their slump today, as they entertain the California Golden Bears in Pac-10 Conference action at Wells-Fargo Arena in Tempe.
The Sun Devils were on the verge of taking over the Pac-10 just a couple of weeks ago, but three straight losses put an end to those title aspirations. After dropping back-to-back overtime decisions to Washington and Washington State, ASU was stunned by Stanford, 74-64, in Tempe on Thursday. The three- game skid is the longest of the season for the Sun Devils and they now sit in fourth place in the league standings at 10-7.
Just ahead of ASU is Cal, which is 11-6 and assured the third seed in next week's Pac-10 Tournament because it owns the tie-breaker with the Sun Devils. The Bears locked up the third spot on Thursday, defeating Arizona, 83-77, in Tucson for the first time since 1995. The win improved the program to 22-8 overall, virtually guaranteeing it a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.
Cal handled ASU, 81-71, in the first meeting of the season, but the Sun Devils still hold a slight, 34-32, edge in the head-to-head series.
The Bears matched a school-record by making 16 three-pointers on Thursday and that helped them get past Arizona, 83-77. Cal, which took 30 attempts from beyond the arc, is hitting on 44.5 percent of its long-range opportunities on the season to lead the nation. Jerome Randle was brilliant in the win and he drained 8-of-11 shots from three-point distance on his way to a career-high 31 points. Theo Robertson also set a personal best with 24 points and he dished out five assists, while Patrick Christopher added 12 points and seven rebounds. On the season, Randle tops the roster in scoring at 18.2 ppg and he is also distributing a team-high 5.1 apg. Randle has already set the school- record with 74 three-pointers on the season, as he is shooting 47.1 percent from downtown. Christopher follows with 14.9 ppg, and Robertson chips in with 12.6 ppg. Both players are also dangerous from three-point land, with Christopher hitting at a 40.4 percent clip and Robertson at an impressive 50.5 percent rate.
The Sun Devils shooting woes continued on Thursday, as they connected on just 36.0 percent from the floor, including a poor 8-of-30 showing from long distance, in a surprising loss to Stanford. ASU, which beat Stanford by 30 points earlier this season, was also guilty of 14 turnovers on the night. James Harden paced the team in defeat with 22 points, while Jeff Pendergraph notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Harden is the driving force behind this ASU club and he is conference's leading scorer at 20.8 ppg. He can do more than just score, though, as Harden adds 5.5 ppg and 4.2 rpg to the lineup, to go with a team-high 49 steals. Pendergraph comes in with 14.0 ppg and a team-best 8.4 rpg, and Rihards Kuksiks nets 10.5 ppg on 45.6 percent shooting from long range.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6
The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.
Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com. "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America. It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis. It's like Week 1 of the NFL. Pre-season means nada!
We do know the 24 finalists however.
Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24. He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway. He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.
Brandon Rogers - Who?
Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition. He should go a good distance.
Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was. And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition. He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice! People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.
"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks. He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes. But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.
A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”
Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate. "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past. He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far. Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)
And the others:
Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter
The girls
"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis. "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has. The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive. I think she will go far."
Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.
"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams. Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth. "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.
Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.
Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.
Antonella Barba
Gina Glocksen
Hailey Scanardo
Jordan Sparks
Stephanie Edwards
Leslie Hunt
Sabrina Sloan
