Garnett to miss 2-3 weeks

Basketball Betting Lines

02/21/2009 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Celtics forward Kevin Garnett will miss the next 2-3 weeks due to a posterior muscle strain of his right knee.

Garnett returned to Boston for evaluation on his strained right knee and was originally only slated to miss the final three games of the reigning NBA champions' six-game West Coast road trip.

He was evaluated by Dr. Brian McKeon on Friday and the expected outcome was the result -- a muscle strain in the right knee with a 2-to-3 week recovery time.

Garnett was taken to the locker room with just over one minute left in the second quarter of Thursday's 90-85 loss to Utah after injuring his right leg while leaping for a dunk and did not return.

"The Big Ticket" was jumping for an alley-oop from Paul Pierce and came down awkwardly on the leg. Garnett immediately limped off the floor and was subsequently helped into the locker room.

Garnett was initially scheduled to be examined Saturday, but instead he was checked out upon landing in Boston Friday night.

In 53 games this season, Garnett is averaging 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
