On the snap, running back Brandon Jacobs came up the middle, but on a miscommunication collided with the QB. Manning was then hit from the blind side by linebacker Calvin Pace. Manning's head appeared to get caught on the facemask of safety Jim Leonhard. Jacobs recovered the fumble. Manning's helmet popped off and he walked off the field holding his hand over his forehead with blood streaming down his face.

The injury came in the first game at the New Meadowlands Stadium for Manning, who left after completing 4-of-8 passes for 77 yards.
